How Gemstone Safari Works: Your Private Acquisition Process

Gemstone Safari is designed for private buyers who want the experience, access, and protection of a serious Gemstone acquisition — without being exposed to the confusion, pressure, and markup of ordinary retail channels.

The process is discreet, structured, and personal.

Whether the client is searching for an investment-quality Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, or another important colored Gemstone, the objective is the same: identify the right stone, evaluate it correctly, document it properly, and acquire it at true dealer-level market pricing.

This is not a retail shopping appointment.

It is a private acquisition protocol.

Step 1: The Initial Confidential Consultation

The process begins with a private consultation with Joseph Schall, GIA Gemologist and Founder of Gemstone Safari.

This first conversation is confidential and practical. Joseph learns what the client is looking for, why the acquisition matters, and what level of stone would make sense.

The discussion may include preferred Gemstone type, color, origin, carat size, treatment status, jewelry plans, collection goals, price range, travel timing, and whether the client is primarily buying for passion, long-term value, or both.

This is also where Joseph helps the client avoid early mistakes.

A buyer may begin by asking for a 2-carat Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald because that is what they have seen in retail stores. But in the world of investment-quality Gems & Jewelry, the smarter acquisition may be a larger, rarer, finer stone at true market pricing rather than a smaller retail stone already marked up several hundred percent.

The consultation creates the acquisition brief.

Step 2: Stone Selection Brief & Market Preparation

Once the client’s goals are clear, Joseph prepares the market before the client arrives.

This is one of the most important differences between Gemstone Safari and ordinary Gemstone shopping. The client is not arriving in Bangkok or New York to “see what is available.” Joseph uses his private network to locate a small number of stones that match the client’s exact goals.

In most cases, the objective is to identify 3–4 serious candidates before the appointment stage.

That may include Pigeon Blood Unheated Burmese Rubies, Cornflower Blue Kashmir Sapphires, fine unheated Ceylon Sapphires, no-oil Emeralds, Padparadscha Sapphires, Paraíba Tourmaline, Mahenge Spinel, or other important colored Gemstones.

The point is not quantity.

The point is precision.

Step 3: Private Access Appointments

The client is then introduced to private access appointments in either Bangkok or New York.

In Bangkok, Gemstone Safari gives the client a private audience with top connoisseur Gemstone dealers — never retail showrooms. These are not ordinary jewelry-store appointments. They are private trade-level meetings arranged through Joseph’s relationships.

Bangkok is one of the most important colored Gemstone centers in the world. Many important colored Gemstones are cut there, traded there, certified there, and originate there in the trade sense, as rough stones from around the world are transformed into finished connoisseur Gemstones by master cutters.

For clients who prefer not to travel internationally, New York sourcing may be an alternative depending on the stone and the client’s requirements.

Step 4: Expert Evaluation on Your Behalf

At each appointment, Joseph evaluates the stones directly on the client’s behalf.

This is where 32 years of Gemstone experience matters.

Joseph examines color, clarity, cut, crystal, windowing, extinction, inclusions, treatment indicators, proportion, origin claims, and the overall life of the stone. He uses his loupe and field experience to inspect each candidate in real time.

The client sees the stone.

Joseph helps the client understand what they are seeing.

This step protects the buyer from the common language of the market: “rare,” “investment grade,” “natural,” “royal blue,” “pigeon blood,” “no oil,” “collector quality.” These words are often used too loosely. A serious acquisition requires judgment beyond sales language.

If the stone is not good enough, Joseph says so.

If the price does not match the quality, Joseph says so.

If the paperwork is not strong enough, Joseph says so.

The client is never pressured to buy.

Step 5: Independent Certification & Secure Transport

Once a stone is selected, certification and logistics become the priority.

For important Gemstones, respected laboratory reports may include GIA, AGL, Gübelin, SSEF, GRS, or other appropriate laboratories depending on the stone and location. The correct laboratory depends on the Gemstone, origin question, treatment question, and transaction structure.

Some reports may be available before purchase. Others may require submission or confirmation. Turnaround times can vary depending on the laboratory, the stone, the complexity of origin or treatment analysis, and current laboratory volume.

Secure transport is handled with the seriousness the asset deserves.

Depending on the transaction, the stone may be hand-carried, shipped through secure logistics, or routed through a bonded viewing office. The goal is to protect the client, the Gemstone, the paperwork, and the chain of custody.

For custom jewelry clients, the stone can also move into the design process with a personal designer, CAD, and master ateliers.

Step 6: The 30-Day Post-Acquisition Guarantee & Follow-up

Gemstone Safari also includes a 30-day post-acquisition guarantee.

The purpose is to give the client confidence after the purchase. The client has time to review the Gemstone, documentation, and overall acquisition with the assurance that the purchase is protected under the terms of the guarantee.

This is especially important for private buyers entering the world of investment-quality Gems & Jewelry for the first time.

Gemstone Safari does not disappear after the purchase.

Joseph remains available for follow-up questions, additional documentation, jewelry planning, insurance support, future sourcing, and long-term collection guidance.

The relationship is not built around one transaction.

It is built around trust.
